If there is one thing parents can do for their children, aside from teaching them about God and loving them, that would benefit them greatly, it is this: teach them to not envy (evil) people. God gives to each person exactly what they need. If you are not rich (in worldly terms) or successful (in worldly ways), it’s because God knows you can’t handle it. When we see successful people, we usually envy them. We want what they have. Yet we don’t realize the truth: God either gave them these things to bless them, or to curse them. Usually success gained through evil means won’t last. It is actual punishment or a curse. God knows the outcome, and He knows your heart. When it’s for Him, you learn to hold everything loosely, because your treasure is not in the things He gives, but it is in Him. When your heart is not for Him, all the things and successes are a burden, occupying all your thought-life, trying to figure out how to maintain it. Teach your children not to envy others, especially those that sell there souls to gain fame and fortune. They will eventually learn that things don’t make you happy. Only God can satisfy the soul. And He does it eternally.
31 Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. 32 Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord, but He offers His friendship to the godly. 33 The Lord curses the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the upright. 34 The Lord mocks the mockers but is gracious to the humble. 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame!
