Never forget what it means to be a natural born sinner. It’s only when we realize that we can’t trust ourselves, that salvation becomes real. We must realize we are sinners in need of a Savior, before God can use us to further His kingdom. For its our heart that reveals our true nature. And anyone honest with themselves, knows we can’t be trusted. That’s what Jesus means when He tells the disciples this. Paul talks about it too. In order to make it to Heaven, to be rescued, to be forgiven for our sins, we must die to self daily. If we don’t, we will just continue to pursue the false reality that we can trust ourselves, when we know we can’t. Pride is believing in yourself to the point of trusting yourself more than trusting God. It just doesn’t work that way. Left alone long enough, you’ll find this to be true 100% of the time.
20 And then He added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. 21 For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
Mark 7:20-23
