The proper view of oneself matters. It determines our attitude, which determines how we “handle life”. If we are proud, the world centers around us. External things determine our happiness. If we humble ourselves, thinking more about God and others, our life will be less susceptible to disappointment and strife. And eternal things will occupy our time and talents, which leads to our intrinsic value. Thus our true significance comes from knowing God loves us. Wisdom is humbly accepting our God-given role in life, while giving less effort to bringing attention to ourselves. Once we learn how to properly view ourselves in light of God’s truth, it’s easier to deal with others. But until we learn this valuable lesson, disgrace will follow us around and wisdom will elude us.
2 Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
