When people ask you, “What exactly is salvation? What exactly does it mean to have Eternal Life?” you can give them the correct answer. It’s short, simple, and precise. Jesus answers this for us in chapter 17 of the book of John. Eternal life is knowing God, and knowing Jesus. Think about this: knowing God, Who is eternal, is knowing eternal life. The more we know God the more we experience eternal life. When we show God our interest in Him, our devotion to Him, and our loyalty to Him and not the world, we grow the ability to see beyond the physical. Our spiritual sight allows us to see deeper into this life, and beyond this life into eternity. Once we begin to see past “the now”, the future holds more relevance; to the point of changing the way we live, the way we react to things. It gives us hope, the ability to endure hardship, the ability to rejoice with authentic joy, and a resolve knowing the best is yet to come. Knowing God is eternal life. You can’t possess it unless He grants it to you, and once He does, you’ll never be the same. You’ll never see things the same, and you’ll never be without hope.
For You have given Him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one You have given Him.3 And this is the way to have eternal life–to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the One You sent to earth.
