What it all comes down to, every single time when it comes to our own misery, failures, and dilemmas, is this: we do it “our way”. Our sinful nature is to blame when it comes to our disappointment. God tells us what way is best. He shows us that His ways are trustworthy. He even sometimes holds our hand and walks us through it. But it always comes down to us wanting to pull our hand away and run to do it “our way” that causes the problems. It will not be until we get to Heaven that we will see firsthand that God’s ways are the best ways. We will fully see what life should be like and will be like. No conflict, no tumultuous relationships, and no selfish pride fracturing solid bonds among people will take place here. Solomon, even though he was told not only by God, but by his father, leaders, and people the ways to live, ignored the warnings and did what pleased himself. The results are documented in Ecclesiastes (read it yourself). Never allow yourself to get to the point where you only listen to yourself. It will lead to a life of discontent, anxiety, and much worse. Listen to God. Discipline yourself in following His voice. It will save you a lot of misery and show you that God knows you better than you know yourself. Trust me on this one.
1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. 2 The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, ‘You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.’ Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway. 3 He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.
