Without Proper Fear Of God….

Fear is a good thing, when it’s put in its proper place. Think about it, fear protects. Fear humbles. Fear prevents us from doing stupid things. In our faith (Christianity) fear is a healthy thing. Fear of Hell, fear of disappointing God and other believers, and fear of not fulfilling our purpose, help keep us going. Some would say this fear is wrong, it shouldn’t be there. We shouldn’t live in fear. I would ask them what fear are you talking about and why? Sure fear causes people to do certain things, which can be detrimental, but true, honest, God-placed fear is good. If you don’t like the word fear, then substitute the word respect, or reverence for. Does that make it easier to accept? Our fear of God, i.e. reverence for, respect for, should keep us from adopting a mindset of sinning is okay. That’s when you know your fear is the kind that God designed for us. Without proper fear of God, willful sinning will become part of your everyday life. You won’t even bat an eye at it when you’re doing it. Fear is a test, to see what’s in your heart.

20 “Don’t be afraid,” Moses answered them, “for God has come in this way to test you, and so that your fear of Him will keep you from sinning!” Exodus 20:20
