The problem people have with fame isn’t with fame itself, it’s allowing it to go to one’s head. Think about it. Once we think we are more important than others because of what we’ve done or do, we tend to take things for granted. We begin to think our poop doesn’t stink. We are better than others. We are “in charge”. Our decision making becomes clouded by our selfish thoughts and eventually we step into the role of God, or so we think. The minute we accept the kind of praise only God deserves, watch out. God will not share His glory with anyone. His praise is only meant for Him. He will allow believers to celebrate with Him, but never accept glory that only He deserves. Once you get this as a believer, humility will no longer be an enemy, but it will become your friend. Our heads are only meant to grow to a certain size. Anything larger robs the growth of our spiritual development. God will not share His glory with anyone, so save yourself some pain and stop trying.
20 Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. So they sent a delegation to make peace with him because their cities were dependent upon Herod’s country for food. The delegates won the support of Blastus, Herod’s personal assistant, 21 and an appointment with Herod was granted. When the day arrived, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to them. 22 The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, “It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!”23 Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.
