There are only two instances (that I’m aware of) in the Bible that faith is displayed in speech right before or during a trial. Here, and in the book of Job (Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him Job 13:15a). Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego state their faith in God is greater than succumbing to Nebuchadnezzar’s decree to worship him. This is one of the two greatest declarations of faith in all of scripture. I wonder if I was in that situation would I have been able to proclaim it? Probably not. This gives me more motivation to pursue God. And one day, l might be able to say, “But even if He doesn’t.....”
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if He doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”
Daniel 3:16-18
