How Bad Does it Have To Get?

I don’t watch the news. I don’t even know what’s going on in the world right now. When I tell people that, they must think I live under a rock. One of the reasons is there’s not much positive being reported. When I hear all the bad behaviors going on; how people mistreat others or abuse their power, I tend to think, “how bad does it have to get?” I think we live in a depraved society, that’s only getting worse. Then I read scripture to find out, it’s always been this way. There’s nothing that happens today that hasn’t happened before, only the details change. Here in Isaiah chapter 3, we see Isaiah warning the people about what’s going to happen to Jerusalem. Young people insulting their elders, and vulgar people abusing the righteous. This sounds like modern day America. Leaders misleading the people. This has happened before, and it will happen again. I don’t have to watch the news to see this playing out, the Bible shows me. And what it also shows me is that God is in control. His justice prevails. He takes care of those who are devoted to Him. Those that are obedient (how we show our love for Him) have something that others don’t have, HOPE, the anchor of the soul. The next time you watch the news and see something that disturbs you, go to God in prayer, ask Him to remind you of Who’s in charge. Whatever it was will fail in comparison to knowing the One Who made all things, and Who determined our significance before we were born.

5 People will oppress each other–man against man, neighbor against neighbor. Young people will insult their elders, and vulgar people will sneer at the honorable. Isaiah 3:5

The very look on their faces gives them away. They display their sin like the people of Sodom and don’t even try to hide it. They are doomed! They have brought destruction upon themselves. 10 Tell the godly that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!11 But the wicked are doomed, for they will get exactly what they deserve. 12 Childish leaders oppress My people, and women rule over them.O My people, your leaders mislead you;they send you down the wrong road. Isaiah 3:9-12
