The number one trait anyone could ever possess that allows someone to be close to God, giving them the ability to love and live to the fullest, has to be honesty. I’m not talking about not lying. I’m talking about the ability to accept truth, specifically about ourselves. When you can apply God’s truth to yourself, you have an advantage over all other people. This humility is usually seen by the world as a weakness, but to God it’s His way of transferring His strength to us. When you open your heart to God, willing to expose all your warts, skeletons, and weaknesses, that’s when you discover who you really are. And most importantly, you discover Who God is. And when you discover that you find your significance, direction, and purpose in life. It all starts with honesty, your willingness to accept reality, and abide in the truth. If you can’t be honest with yourself, who can you be honest with?
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;test me and know my anxious thoughts.24 Point out anything in me that offends You,and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Psalms 139:23-24
