The only difference between being legalistic (politically correct) and being truly humble is Who it is you’re trying to please. If you try to please men, your priorities are not about the welfare of “doing right” at the expense of others. If you’re trying to please God, from your heart, others will always be in the equation. All of this is directly related to the distance of your relationship to God. You’ll find your patience and respect levels for people are much higher when that distance is short. It’s really easy to become legalistic when that distance is far.
1 Declare me innocent, O Lord, for I have acted with integrity;I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.2 Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me.Test my motives and my heart.3 For I am always aware of Your unfailing love, and I have lived according to Your truth.4 I do not spend time with liarsor go along with hypocrites.5 I hate the gatherings of those who do evil, and I refuse to join in with the wicked.
Psalms 26:1-5
